54-year-old Lora Koch and her husband, Jim, have been married for 26 years and have 2 children together. Jim proposed marriage to Laura a long time ago, but last month he decided he needed to propose again. The re-proposal didn’t come after a rough patch in their marriage or because he expected anything in return. Instead, the proposal came after Lora was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Lora was recovering from a bilateral mastectomy when Jim came up with the plan. “It was pretty spontaneous,” said Jim of his proposal. “I’ve known Lora as the most selfless person that I know, and as she was going through this rough patch, I really wanted to give a sign and a reminder of love and commitment.”

Of course, the kind gesture meant the world to Lora. “This is true love,” she said. “Even when I’m at my worst he still loves me.”

But the proposal wasn’t just meaningful to Lora. Lora and Bill’s daughter, Christin, also took note and tweeted photos of her dad’s act of kindness.

“[My dad] started saying, I love you no matter what, in sickness and in health,” said Christin. “I really liked being able to witness it. I’ve always known they had a strong relationship and seeing it in front of my own eyes was really cool.”

Bit Jim isn’t taking any credit. He says his wife is his inspiration. “Throughout the whole thing, she’s had such a positive attitude. From diagnosis to surgery, I don’t think she’s had a down day.”
