Do you know how small a baby lobster actually is? Well, apparently neither does the rest of the internet! The National Lobster Hatchery shared footage of their adorable two-week-old specimens on TikTok. They’re a lot smaller than most commenters were expecting! In fact, some people thought they were insects at first.
If you look closely, each baby lobster in the video has tiny claws and a miniscule tail. It’s incredible that, at this size, they’re set to be released! However, according to the National Lobster Hatchery website, these little critters are just about ready to fend for themselves. In fact, once they’re set free, they’ll settle down in the gravel at the bottom of the water.
So many commenters on the TikTok video were surprised to learn what a baby lobster actually looks like! Others couldn’t believe that they were still so small after developing for two months.
“Help I thought they were tiny scorpions being made into keychains,” wrote one user.
“Who else’s first time seeing a baby lobster,” asked another.
“Two months?” a third person said. “What have they been DOING with all that time?”
