In October of 1999, the Veron family went on a vacation to the Colorado Mountains. Much to the kids’ dismay, the had to make a pit stop on the way to the hot springs. But when they finally left, Joy watched as her kids swiftly ran to their white suburban, ready to go.

It was just seconds later Joy realized the car doors were shut and the car was moving towards a 400 foot cliff… the gears had malfunctioned.
She could see sheer panic on her kids’ faces. She had to do something.
Going on pure motherly instinct, she jumped in front of the car last minute. But she couldn’t stop it. The car began to run over her and consequently jarred one of the doors open. Right then, her father dove into the car and pulled the emergency break.
It was about a yard in front of the drop-off… and they kids were safe. But Joy was gravely injured.
“Joy, you’re going to be okay,” said her dad. But could only respond by saying, “No, no dad, don’t touch me; I know that I’m paralyzed.”
That was 15 years ago.
The video below retells the incredible story and gives us a picture of Joy’s life today. The most incredible thing: how much her sweet kids love her and respect her. She is their hero.
As one kid said about mom: “You can’t run or walk, but you sure can fly… How many people can say that the last time they ran, they saved 3 lives?,” Annie asked emotionally.
