When Luke Nuttal was just a toddler, he was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes. His mother, Dorrie, began preparing her son for the life long ordeal… but knew he needed all the help he could get.

Luckily, Luke was accepted into a program that provides therapy dogs for kids in need. Soon after, Luke met his best friend Jedi. The black lab has special training to recognize and alert his humans anytime Luke’s blood sugar gets to a dangerous level. Jedi’s ability, which his family affectionately dubbed ‘The Force,’ actually saved the now 7-year-old’s life, one fateful night.

“I knew he meant business, and the sleepy fog started to wear off,” she wrote on Facebook.

She quickly checked the remote blood sugar monitor from her bedside table and tried to convince Jedi that Luke was fine… but the insistent pup wouldn’t give up.
