Simone Biles is quickly becoming a household name. At 4 foot 8 and only 19 years old, Simone is stunning the world with her power and skill as a gymnast for Team USA in the 2016 Olympic Games. Simone is expected to bring home several gold medals for the United States, but even before the Olympics, Simone had proven herself as a star.

According to Texas Monthly, Simone is “the most decorated gymnast of all time, male or female” and she is “the only female gymnast in history to win the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships three years in a row.” It’s crazy to think that none of this would have been possible if it weren’t for two very important people: Ron and Nellie Biles, Simone’s adopted parents.

Simone was born into a dysfunctional family. Her mother was a drug addict and her father was out of the picture. Simone and her three siblings were soon put in foster care where they were moved from home to home until Simone was 6 years old. That’s when Ron and Nellie stepped in.

Ron and Nellie are Simone’s biological grandparents. They adopted Simone and her sister, and Ron’s brother adopted Simone’s other two siblings. Simone described the day when Ron and Nellie explained to her that she didn’t have to call them grandma and grandpa, she could call them mom and dad: “I went upstairs and tried practicing it in the mirror,” Simone says of that day. “‘Mom, Dad, Mom, Dad.’ Then I went downstairs, and she was in the kitchn. I looked up at her and I was like, ‘Mom?’ She said, ‘Yes!'”

After that, Simone’s life was never the same. Her new parents supported her dream of practicing gymnastics. They even built a gym; of course, they had no idea then, what a star they had on their hands!

Now, the little starĀ from Spring, Texas is the front-runner for Team USA, ready to make history. The whole country will be cheering for her in Rio, right alongsie Ron and Nellie, two very proud parents.
