Last week, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick chose to sit on the bench while the National Anthem played before a recent NFL preseason game. His show of disrespect caused an absolute uproar from football fans and patriots alike. In the wake of his protest, players and coaches in the NFL have decided to remind their players why we choose to respect the National Anthem – and it’s making a world of difference.

Jeff Fisher, head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, took the oppourtunity to show young members of his preseason team why we stand for the National Anthem. He explained the significance of the American flag and the Star Spangled Banner in a way that cut them to the core.
“It’s a self-respect thing, it’s a respect for your teammates, it’s a respect for this game, it’s a respect for this country,”he continued. “This is important to us.â€
He explained that their very ability to play football is a direct privilege bought with the price of American lives.
“It’s an opportunity to realize how lucky you are in what you are doing, what you are about ready to do,”he reminded the players.
