Another customer was leaving the restaurant when she casually walked up to the officers and handed them a napkin with the sentence “Thanks for keeping us safe” written in pen. The teen didn’t even stop for recognition, she simply turned around and gave a sweet smile as Quinn gave a thumbs up.

But why did this simple note mean so much to the two men? In an interview, Quinn said that sometimes he feels under appreciated as a policeman; that people try to avoid him. So receiving that small act of gratitude is one of the most touching gestures he’s every gotten.

In fact, it meant so much that Officer Quinn went on a search for the kind teen when he posted a picture and description on the department’s Facebook wall.

In the wake of the Dallas shooting tragedies, reminders like this are so important to understand the respect and appreciation that is due to the people who serve to keep us safe.
