Now imagine that feeling, but at the Olympic level. That’s how Chinese diver He Zi felt after the women’s 3 meter springboard competition. He Zi had just won her first Olympic medal when she was given the surprise of her life…

The silver medal had just been handed to He Zi when her boyfriend of 6 years, Qin Kai, joined her by the pool. Qin Kai is also a diver on Team China; Rio marks his third time at the Olympics after competing in Beijing and London. Of course, he and He Zi are both in Rio to compete for their country, but– as it turns out– Qin Kai had one other goal in mind. After He Zi’s silver-winning dive, Quin Kai took the opportunity to propose in front of the whole world.
The crowd absolutely loses it when Qin Kai takes a knee, and they cheer even more when He Zi nods her head “yes.” His elated face when she accepts his proposal is the sweetest thing!
I’ll bet that He Zi had no idea she’d be leaving her first Olympics with both a silver medal and a diamond ring. Talk about a great day for them both! Congrats to the beautiful couple!
