Comfort Dogs From Around USA Brought To Orlando, Their Gentle Presence Is Helping More Than Expected

The attack in Orlando on June 12, 2016, was a tragedy. With 49 killed and 53 others injured, families and loved ones of victims and others close to the attack are in need of comfort and support.

One special way that’s happening is through comfort dogs. Golden Retrievers from seven different states around the country are joining the efforts in recovery. With them are volunteers from several states as well to help guide these furry saviors.

Their specialty, gained from anywhere between 12 to 18 months of training, relies on friendliness and love to help relieve emotional pain. Simply by petting the dogs, some victims of trauma get a sense of relief and solace.

“Dogs can help,” said Tim Hetzner. “They’re like a furry counsel. They’re not judgmental and they’re good listeners, which is good because talking is an important part of healing process. It allows people to process what happened.†Though these canine companions can’t solve all emotional needs, they sure lend a great hand to the recovery process.

Share this powerful story of comfort and hope after such a horrible time in our nation’s history. Find ways yourself to help those suffering through this tragedy.
