Two 12-year-old boys in small town Roman Forest, Texas are being hailed as heroes by the Roman Forest Police Department. The two boys– Markuise and Cameron– were riding their bikes when they spotted something that stopped them in their tracks: a young girl on the verge of drowning in a pond.

The girl– a 4-year-old with autism named Melody– was trying to swing on a tree limb when she fell into the water. Markuise and Cameron didn’t hesitate to hop off their bikes and head into the pond after Melody. They pulled her onto the dry land and ran to get help.

Police arrived at the scene and found little Melody safe and doing just fine, all thanks to the efforts of these young boys. “The two 12-year-old boys who saved this girl are heroes in the eyes of the RFPD,” said the police department in a Facebook post. “Thank you for your quick action.”

The police also explained that Melody had been playing by herself when the boys saved her; if it weren’t for them, who knows what would have happened. The girl’s family reached out to the police when they saw their Facebook post. She had been staying with a babysitter at the time of the incident.
Melody’s mom explained that– while other kids who slip away from parents or sitters sense danger and return home– since Melody has autism, she has no sense of danger and is not alert to potentially scary situations. No charges will be filed.
The family is just happy to have little Melody safe at home and is forever grateful to Markuise and Cameron for their heroism!
