Important Solar Eclipse Update: Certain Eclipse Glasses Recalled — Check Yours

Row of three pairs of solar eclipse glasses laid out on a table

With mere hours left until the total solar eclipse, now is the time to make sure you’re ready. This includes, of course, having the proper eyewear. Although it’s never a good idea to stare directly at the sun, this is all-the-more important during an eclipse. While it may seem as though your vision is fine, the amount of light entering your eyes can leave them permanently damaged.

With the right pair of eclipse glasses, viewing this celestial event is totally safe. Unfortunately, several retailers have issued a recall on their eclipse glasses — they have ISO numbers listed on them that indicate they don’t meet safety standards. The following is a list of the stores issuing a recall:

  • Fink’s ALPS — Union, Missouri
  • Midtowne Market — St. Charles, Missouri
  • B+H Market — Pacific, Missouri
  • Farm Fresh Market — Breese, Illinois
  • Karsch’s Market (all locations)
  • Highland Tru Buy — Highland, Illinois
  • Mace Supermarket — Cuba, Missouri
  • Perry County Market Place — Pinckneyville, Illinois
  • Save A Lot — St. Clair, Missouri, Cedar Hill, Missouri, Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, and Pevely, Missouri
  • Sinclair Foods — Jerseyville, Illinois
  • Straub’s Market — All locations
  • St. Clair Country Mart — St. Clair, Missouri
  • Steeleville Marketplace — Steeleville, Missouri
  • K + R Market — Marthasville, Missouri

Stores Issue Recalls on Their Solar Eclipse Glasses

According to the above post by Fink’s ALPS, their solar eclipse glasses are marked with ISO 12312-1:2022. Instead, they should have the following: ISO 12312-2. All of the stores listed are offering full refunds. Plus, you can learn more by visiting your affected store’s Facebook page. Here, they’ve each issued an alert.

The InspireMore team wishes everyone a safe, and fun, experience during the total solar eclipse today!
