When you’re a police officer, you just never know what to expect on any given day on the job.
Police in Washington County, Oregon showed up in response to a frantic 911 call by a man who said he heard someone trapped inside the bathroom of his nephew’s house. He described the bumping sounds coming from behind the locked door and said he could see a shadow moving underneath the crack of the door.
Washington County Sheriff’s department responded right away, calling for a K9 unit to help bring the criminal to justice. The cops entered the home in full body armor with their guns drawn and began to pound on the bathroom door. When they received no reply, they warned the crook that once they open the door the K9 officer would do his job.
“If you don’t want to get bit, open the door!” the cops shouted at the closed door. After giving every opportunity to surrender they were forced to break the door down, and what they found inside had even the most veteran cops on the force cracking up and calling it “a career first.”
Instead of finding a cowering criminal in the bathroom, they found a trapped electronic vacuum! The silly Roomba had managed to get itself inside the bathroom, close the door, and lock itself in. We’re not sure about the rest of the house, but we’re pretty sure that bathroom floor is clean as a whistle!
The homeowner and police all had a good laugh over the incident, and the Sheriff’s department even shared the joke on their social media pages to prove there were no hard feelings.
“As we entered the home we could hear “rustling” in the bathroom. We made several announcements and the “rustling” became more frequent. We breached the bathroom door and encountered a very thorough vacuuming job being done by a Roomba Robotic Vacuum cleaner.”
“These calls can really suck the life out of you!” the Sheriff’s department joked on Twitter. Soon others were laughing right along with the police officers, sharing all of the “clean” jokes they could think of online.
Ha! We love when something like this happens and we get to see a police department’s sense of humor. The homeowner is no doubt embarrassed by this incident, but it’s an honest mistake that could happen to anyone. The important part is that everyone is safe, and now they’ve got a fantastic story to tell for the rest of their lives.
