Man Devotes Life To Care For Orphaned Kangaroos, Their Adorable Feeding Routine Will Melt Your Heart.

5 joeys drinking from bottles

When one thinks of the Land Down Under there are several things that may come to mind. Hot sandy beaches, shrimp on the barbie, and the outback may cross your mind… but who can forget Australia’s cute critters. There are more than a few, but there is a wildlife rescue center in Victoria that rehabilitates arguably the cutest of them all, baby Kangaroos.

Anthony Matthews and his wife, Theresa, run Our Haven Wildlife Shelter. They focus on rehabilitating and raising orphaned Kangaroos, also known as Joeys, until they are ready to return to the wild. Currently the couple feeds, houses and cares for 27 eastern grey kangaroo joeys, wallabies and a wombat for good measure.

In the video below, Matthews is focused on feeding five joeys supper at the same time. The little guys are still too young for solid food so Matthews spends a lot of time bottle feeding them, and it is adorable to watch.

Wild Kangaroos usually spend the first year of their lives in their mother’s pouches. It takes 9 months for the little ones to peek their heads out for the first time. Even when they start exploring the world, joeys still like to crawl into their mother’s pouch. To help his charges feel at home, Matthews build dozens of makeshift hammocks for them to snuggle up in.

Check out the adorable result in the video below.
