According to UNICEF, approximately 140 million worldwide are classified as orphans. In many places in the world, the majority of these children lack the support they need to succeed in life. A staggering number of these children live in ‘child-headed households’ where the oldest children take charge of caring for the others. The statistics drove a mother and father to adopt 5 children in faith that their efforts would make a difference.

After the adoption of her son Daniel, Lisa Murphy soon felt the pain only a mother can experience. He passed away when his body couldn’t recover from the open-heart surgery that he’d desperately needed, but Lisa knew his life was not in vain.

In his memory, Lisa founded Open Hearts for Orphans, an incredible organization making an immeasurable impact in the lives of orphaned and abandoned children worldwide.

Open Hearts for Orphans connects with local NGO’s in countries across the world that need them. They provide assistance for food, shelter, education. They offer adoption assistance through their “Say Yes” adoption grants for prospective parents who are compelled to adopt a child with special needs. They also provide funding for medical interventions for vulnerable children and work to equip orphanages and medical foster homes with medical supplies that are not readily accessible to them.
