Mom In Desperate Need Of Kidney Finds Perfect Match In Her Daughter’s Teacher.

Those who need organ transplants have to be added to a registry in order to find a match. There are a lot of variables at play, but some patients have to wait years before they find a match – and some patients never do.

In 2018, Tracy Shearin-Drayton found out she needed a kidney transplant, but her rare blood type meant she could be on the list for up to eight years. So, her family began campaigning for a live-match (a living donor) and found one in the most unlikely place – her daughter’s school.

Tracy was diagnosed with Lupus in 2009 while serving in the military. Eventually, the condition worsened and she was discharged in 2017. By early 2018, doctors discovered her kidney was failing and put her on dialysis. They also determined she’d need a new kidney.

Doctors added Tracy to a registry list, but her blood type, B-positive, is very rare so she was told the wait could be anywhere from five to eight years before she’d find a match. Knowing this, her family began a campaign to spread awareness and to hopefully find a live donor.

Tracy’s family had special shirts made to help gain some attention, and encourage people to get tested to see if they could be a match. Her eight-year-old daughter, Jada Floyd-Drayton sported her shirt on the second day of school.

Jada’s shirt caught the attention of several people, including Pam Oast. Pam was Jada’s teacher when she was in kindergarten, so the two already had a bond. Not expecting much, the teacher decided to get tested to see if she could be a match for Tracy.

After some initial testing, Pam discovered that she was actually a perfect match for Tracy! She wasted no time and headed over to the hospital to surprise the mom with the good news.

In a video shared on Facebook, Pam holds up a sign that reads “Will You Be My Kindey Sista?” The teacher then walks into Tracy’s hospital room where her initial reaction is just a scream of pure shock. Then, as the news sinks in, the sweet mom begins to sob.

There is still more testing to be done to ensure Pam’s kidney is in tip-top shape for Tracy, but so far everything has come out positive. Hopefully, it’s not much longer before the mom can rest easy knowing the search for a kidney is over.

Watch Pam surprise Tracy in the video below, and be sure to share it with your friends!
