4-year-old Abby has spends a lot of time in the hospital fighting an aggressive form of childhood cancer. Her battle for survival is no easy task, but the medical staff at Albany Medical Center came up with the sweetest way to encourage her.
When Abby expressed to her mom the desire to marry Matt Hickling, one of the nurses who cared for her, I’m sure the notion got a laugh or two. Abby’s mom shared the cute intention with Hickling, and the big-hearted hospital staff responded in the best way. In just 24 hours, the medical staff at Albany Medical Center planned an impromptu “wedding” for little Abby and nurse Matt, complete with a cake, a ‘tuxedo’ for Hickling and flowers– ordered last-minute from a local florist.
When Abby arrived for treatment for her acute lymphoblastic leukemia, she expected just another day of fighting leukemia. But Abby found a surprise fairytale wedding waiting for her.
After exchanging ring pops and driving off in a toy car complete with tin cans and a “just married” sign, Abby promptly decided it was “the best day ever.”
Kudos to nurse Matt and the entire hospital staff who made this special day happen! Watch the touching “ceremony” below.
