When National Geographic‘s Brian Skerry went for his 3 week expedition to the Aukland Islands in wintertime, he probably never expected the caliber of animal encounter that he was about to experience.
But Brian and his assistant got a giant surprise. One day on the shoot, out of nowhere a 45-foot-long whale – “as big as a city bus” – approached the two out of curiosity and hovered just feet from them in an unprecedented way. It led to one of the most stunning photographs Brian said he has ever taken.
Hearing Skerry describe the experience is enough to get your heart beating. I can’t even imagine the adrenaline they felt during this rare, face-to-face experience with that incredible creature in a way that few have ever done.
Here’s the Takeaway: Get out there and see what unprecedented phenomena you can experience. Life rewards the bold.
