This is one of the most special dances we’ve ever seen. 30 seconds into the video, I was fighting away tears… hard.
McKenzie Carney is considered a special needs child. At a young age, she was diagnosed with a type of mitochondrial disease that is life-threatening. There is no known cure for the disease, so McKenzie’s dad, Mike Carney, has to drive his family hundreds of miles from Florida to Georgia for a special type of treatment.
On McKenzie’s GoFundMe page (created to help pay for the extremely expensive treatment), McKenzie’s mother writes:
the #1 good news email read by 455K+ people.
“After many hours, days, even weeks of research we found some alternative therapies to help treat her disease, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and intensive suit therapy. McKenzie has responded to these treatments extremely well… there is nothing I won’t do to help improve my daughter’s quality of life. She is such an inspiration to everyone she meets. Please help us raise the funds we need to help our daughter and give her the best life possible. We are in a desperate situation and asking for your help.”
This video, shot at a summer pageant, epitomizes the love a father should show to a child. Notice that Mike’s t-shirt says “McKenzie’s Daddy” and pay attention to McKenzie’s smiles at 1:59 and 2:30… AMAZING! We hope you are as moved by this video as we are.
Here’s our takeaway: Share this! We all need an example of pure, unconditional love. And in this video, McKenzie’s dad Mike is the essence of a loving role model. Let’s all learn from him and treat others the same way.
