Chris Evans Walks Into Dog Pound To Film Movie Scene, Then Refuses To Leave Without New Best Friend.

Everyone knows Chris Evans plays the lovable Captain America, but did you know he’s actually that sweet in real life? Last month, Chris posted a tweet with an adorable rescue dog licking his face. Weeks later, we finally have the adorable story behind the precious photo.

It all started while Chris was filming a scene for his new movie Gifted. One of the movie’s scenes takes place in an animal shelter, so Chris was at the pound to film. While he may have been there on a job, he couldn’t resist asking about the dogs he saw there.

“One of the last scenes we were filming was in a pound, a kennel,”said Chris. “I foolishly walked in and I thought, ‘Are these actor dogs or are these real up for adoption dogs?’”

When Chris found out these were “real” dogs who really needed homes, he was immediately interested.

“So I was walking up and down the aisles and saw this one dude and he didn’t belong there. I snagged him and he’s such a good dog.”

The dog is now named Dodger and he’s quickly become a best friend to Chris. Chris can’t help but go on and on about his bud.

“They aged him at about one, he acts like a puppy, he’s got the energy of a puppy, he’s just such a sweetheart, he’s such a good boy. He loves dogs, he loves kids, he’s full of love.â€

Chris is known for getting into incredible shape to play superheroes like the Human Torch and– obviously– Captain America. How does he have time to give attention to a doggy with his busy workout routine?

“Playing with him is exercise, he’s exhausting,”Chris told PEOPLE through laughter. “He’s up for anything. Dogs, they’re such great animals. I really can’t say enough about dogs, I’m a dog lunatic. He sleeps on my pillow, you wake up face-to-face.â€

This isn’t the first time Chris has proved himself a dog-lover. Once, in an interview, someone asked Chris “What’s the most important thing you own?” Chris’s response had the internet swooning.

Thanks for rescuing, Cap! You’re Dodger’s real-life hero.
