We should all thank our healthcare workers. After all, they are the heroes of the novel coronavirus pandemic. They’re working tirelessly to save people’s lives while putting their own safety at risk!
Allison Swendsen is one of these incredible individuals. As an ER nurse, she’s on the front lines of the outbreak and has been putting in crazy hours at New Jersey’s Morristown Medical Center. She’s also sacrificing time with her family, which is why every gesture of gratitude from her patients and their loved ones is a precious reminder that it’s all worth it.

On March 25, Allison was working in triage when she heard a knock at the window. Before her stood an elderly man who had tears pouring down his cheeks. He held up a simple cardboard sign that read, “Thank you all in emergency for saving my wife’s life. I love you all.”
With his permission, Allison snapped a photo of his powerful message and shared it with her own thoughts on Facebook.
“I peeked out the door and asked him how his wife was,” she wrote. “He said, ‘Great, she is going home today. You are all amazing.’ I don’t know him, I don’t know his wife, but throughout the last 13 years as a nurse, I realized, this is why we do it – times are tough, but we make a difference. I love my team.”

We can’t imagine how tough it is for every healthcare worker who is treating COVID-19 patients, but we can say from the bottom of our hearts that we’re forever grateful to them. Clearly, we’re not the only ones! Let’s all thank them by staying home to flatten the curve.
