A Multi-Purpose Coat That’s Empowering Women, Creating Jobs, & Helping The Homeless.

The Empowerment Plan, a non-profit founded by Veronika Scott in 2011, hires homeless women, who otherwise would most likely be unable to find any work. By teaching these women to sew and make the coats, the business is equipping them with applicable skills so that they can sustain a working lifestyle once they leave the program. This goes perfectly with the organizations motto:

“We believe in giving second chances to those who want it, and providing warmth to those who need it.”

According to the latest statistics, over 600,000 people in the U.S. are homeless on any given night. In Detroit alone — where this program is based — 1 in every 42 people are homeless. With these coats/sleeping bags, The Empowerment Plan not only helps to keep the homeless warm, but she also gives them a platform for employment which in turn plants a seed for a larger solution.

“A coat is just a bandaid for a systemic issue. And what would really have an impact is hiring the population that would need them in the first place.” –Veronika Scott

Those are the words of a true visionary.
