Massive Fire Scares Horse Into Pool, Stranger Discovers Her Trapped & Leaps To Rescue.

The inferno consuming the town of Paradise, California has affected more than its human residents. One of those residents, a horse seeking shelter the flames, escaped by jumping into the pool.

But she became tangled on the pool cover that collapsed beneath her weight. The cover left her partially suspended above the water which kept her from drowning, but ironically, it also became a death trap: She couldn’t get back on her feet. By the time Jeff Hill found her, she’d “given up and had the look of defeat in her eyes.”

She would’ve been among the fire fatalities if Jeff hadn’t found her when he did, while out checking on a friend’s house to find out if it was still standing. He described the scene in a November 11 Facebook post, saying,

There’s no telling how long she was there but she was shivering uncontrollably and ultimately lost her fight. She was all caught up in the pool cover but her being suspended by it prevented her from drowning.

Jeff and his friends worked together to unhook the pool cover, then guided her to the shallow end of the pool…

There, she was finally able to climb up the steps to freedom.

She got out, shook off, loved on us for a few minutes as a thank you and walked off assuring us that she was ok.

Thanks to Jeff’s post, it appears this horse will soon be reunited with her owner, if she hasn’t already!

That is one lucky horse! Meanwhile, a volunteer group, North Valley Animal Disaster Group, has set up a shelter at an airport in nearby Chico for more than 1,400 displaced animals, many of them suffering burns and other injuries. Volunteers are working with other groups, including staff from University of California Davis’s prestigious School of Veterinary Medicine to care for the injured.

As far as the trapped horse is concerned, Jeff and his group literally saved her life, thanks in part to being at the right place at the right time, then jumping in and doing what needed to be done.
