Her background in music education led her to create the Songs for Littles series of videos on YouTube. Ms. Rachel is a favorite of Robert De Niro’s two-year-old daughter, Gia, leading to this Today Show clip.

Considering that Ms. Rachel is somewhat of a cult figure for youngsters, her nod to Robert De Niro lets us know she is in tune with the world. Parents call her “an angel, a goddess who has bestowed upon us her supreme gifts for entertaining and educating children.” They call her “the world’s babysitter” and sometimes offer cash for child care.
The Today Show clip is a personal call-out from Ms. Rachel to Robert De Niro, mentioning his daughter. The subject is also a giveaway for those familiar with De Niro’s film work. It focused on taxicabs and their sounds. Beep beep.
In 1976, the movie Taxi Driver came out, starring Robert De Niro as driver Travis Bickle. While the adult-themed film is not appropriate for toddlers, Ms. Rachel used one of the movie’s most famous lines. “Are you talking to me?” The famous line is often repeated and parodied and will go down in history for its impact on society. It isn’t just the words. It is the way De Niro phrases the line. Ms. Rachel tries to deliver the line as Robert De Niro does but misses the mark.
What she didn’t miss was conveying the heartfelt feelings she gets knowing that he watches her program. This clip is fantastic because it shows respect for his work.
