Fame and fortune have a way of changing people – and not always for the best. But some of the greatest role models are celebrities who use their power for good.
Singer Kacey Musgraves is definitely among the superstars who’ve earned their fans’ praise by helping others. In fact, right now she’s doing everything she can to boost business for a hard-working man whose success has slowed in the digital age.

The Grammy Award-winning artist was out in Los Angeles recently, looking for a one-hour photo lab when she and her sister stumbled across what she called “one of those rare mom-&-pop gems” in Korea Town: Tom’s One Hour Photo & Lab. She had such a great experience there she felt compelled to promote the shop on Instagram.

“The owner, Tom, was SO adorable. He not only does film developing but (cheap) and nostalgic portrait sessions too,” Musgraves wrote.

Musgraves also learned that Tom had been in business since the 90s, and she couldn’t pass up a retro portrait session with handmade backdrops created by Tom himself. All her photos came out beautifully.

Alas, Musgraves was pretty disheartened to hear that times have been tough for the talented photographer. The shop only accepts cash and Tom doesn’t have internet, putting him at a serious professional disadvantage nowadays. So, Musgraves took it upon herself to spread the word about the hidden gem online.
Instagram
“He sadly told us his business used to be really busy back in 1991 when he opened but has slowed way down since the digital wave,” Musgraves said. “So, like any good millennials would do we started an appreciation Instagram for him. @tomsonehourphotolab.”
Instagram
Musgraves’ post received hundreds of thousands of likes within the span of just one day. And as of this writing, the shop’s Instagram account has over 20,000 followers! But the best part? Tom has already seen an influx of customers!
In an updated Instagram post, Musgraves wrote, “Just spoke with Tom on the phone and he says he has had many calls today for portrait appointments! He sounded very happy.”

And then she got a message from Tom’s son.
