Launching a new business is tough, to say the least.
As all savvy entrepreneurs know, there’s no such thing as overnight success. There’s also no guarantee clients or customers will give your venture a chance. The latter had one man worrying about the future of his brand-new shop in Missouri City, Texas, but the public came through in a huge way thanks to his son.
On March 9, Billy By posted photos of his dad’s mom-and-pop establishment on Twitter with the caption, “My dad is sad cause no one is coming to his new donut shop.” He was hoping to drum up some enthusiasm from the public and snag a few first customers. The incredible outpouring of support to come from it, however, was very unexpected… and entirely overwhelming.
His post was quickly liked and retweeted by hundreds of thousands. People from all over the world wrote to share their support, lamenting the fact that they weren’t close enough to pop into the shop. But no customers soon became the last thing on the family’s mind as locals came flooding in.
The empty shop soon became packed full of people waiting in long lines.
So many people showed up, in fact, that they ran out of pastries! The shop’s Instagram page also went from 100 followers to more than 62,000 followers in a matter of days.
The next day, a very grateful Billy posted an update to his tweet, thanking the community for supporting the family business. “Just wanted to update y’all! We completely sold out of donuts and kolaches! You are all amazing. I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out and supporting local businesses. This means so much to my family,” he wrote. Just look at his dad’s happy face!
