Happy Birthday, John Mayer! 5 Fun Facts About The Singer

It's John Mayer's 46th birthday!

Soulful songwriter John Mayer is celebrating his 46th birthday! Known for his blues-infused alternative rock and pensive lyrics, this musician has stolen many a listener’s heart over the years. He released his first single, “No Such Thing,” in 2002, launching a fruitful career. Since then, he’s come out with eight successful studio albums!

Mayer is currently touring, so we’re not sure how much actual partying he’ll be able to do on his special day. We’re sure his fans are sending him all kinds of good wishes, though! In honor of the singer’s birthday, here are some unique things you probably didn’t know about him.

1. He didn’t finish college.

Mayer attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, but eventually dropped out. Variety tells us that he earned his first Grammy not long after!

2. “Back to the Future” inspired his musical career.

Michael J. Fox told Entertainment Tonight that it was his character’s rendition of “Johnny B. Goode” in the 1980’s classic that first got John Mayer interested in playing the guitar.

3. He’s played a lot of different guitars. Like, a lot.

As a guitar-centric artist, it makes sense that Mayer has played his way through a long list of different models. Luckily, GroundGuitar has kept track!

3. He has seven Grammy Awards to his name.

These include Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album, according to the Grammy Awards website.

5. He’s single (as far as we know).

Although he’s been in quite a few relationships, Mayer still hasn’t settled down just yet. At least, that’s the last we’ve heard on the matter, according to StyleCaster.

Here’s hoping John Mayer continues to move us through music for many years to come!
