Lionel Richie Undergoes Treatment for Heart Issue

​Lionel Richie is back in the hospital and receiving treatment for a heart condition. According to TMZ, the “Hello” singer had an atrial fibrillation ablation to treat an irregular heartbeat. The minimally invasive procedure will help restore Lionel Richie’s heartbeat to a normal rhythm. The procedure required more cancellation dates for Lionel’s current tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. The United Center in Chicago made an announcement on social media regarding the dates.

​“Lionel Richie recently underwent a common procedure for Atrial fibrillation (AFib). The doctor said everything went perfectly. Lionel is doing great but will take some time off and will be back on stage soon,” the post reads. “Lionel Richie with Earth, Wind and Fire on September 30 at United Center is postponed. Information on a new date will be announced soon, and tickets will be honored at the rescheduled date.”

The news of Lionel Richie’s ongoing heart issues made many fans worry this could be the end of an era.

“Time to shut it down, Lionel. You’ve made bazillions of dollars and received much acclaim. Time to spend more time with family and just enjoying life. Your music will continue to speak for you. No need to subject yourself to the rigors of performing,” a fan wrote.

This person agreed. “Stay inside and protect yourself with bubble wrap we don’t wanna lose you!” They commented.

As did this fan who hopes Lionel Richie will take his heart issues seriously and spend time with those who love him most.

“This brother is magnificent & talented beyond light years. He did his thing & has nothing more to prove. But now it’s time to shut it down Mr. Richie & to enjoy what is left of your life with your family,” they wrote.
