After Daughter’s Death, Dad Bikes 2,000 Miles To Hear Her Heartbeat One Last Time.

“She saved me and I can’t repay her. I wish I could but I can’t.”

Loumonth Jack, Jr. was only 21 years old when he had his first heart attack. A congenital heart defect ambushed the young man in the prime of his life, and no medication or therapy could save him. As his heart continued to deteriorate, doctors gave the young man 10 days to live… but in that darkness a miracle sprang up.

637 miles away, 20-year-old Abbey Connor and her brother Austin, were on a family vacation in Cancun, Mexico. The exact circumstances of what happened next are still unknown, but at 5:30pm they were both found unconscious, facedown in the resort’s pool.

Austin survived, but by the time the pair were discovered and pulled out of the water, Abbey had suffered irreversible brain injury.

She was flown to Fort Lauderdale, where she was kept on life support until doctors could harvest her organs for transplant.

Then young Jack Jr. was given Abbey’s precious heart with only a few days to spare.

He made a quick recovery and went on with life… then he received a letter from the hospital that performed his heart transplant. It was from Abbey’s father.

The hospital sent letters to every person that received a lifesaving organ from Abbey, asking if they’d like to meet the young heroine’s father.

Jack Jr. was the only one that responded.

Abbey’s father, Connor, was given Jack’s contact information and reached out to the young man several times before they arranged to meet in Baton Rouge on Father’s Day.

In honor of Abbey’s memory, to cope with his grief, and to raise awareness for organ donation, Connor decided to ride his bicycle more than 2,000 miles – from his hometown of Madison, Wisconsin, to Baton Rouge – to meet the young man that held his daughter’s heart.

“This is what she would want me to do,” Conner said.

After finally arriving in Baton Rouge and sharing a minute-long hug, Jack pulled out a stethoscope so Conner could hear his daughter’s heartbeat for the first time since she died in January.

Listening carefully, surrounded by Jack’s friends and family, Conner heard the thumping. Both men began to tear up.
