A 72-year-old driver and his 80-year-old wife were driving through Big Lake Park in Plano, TX when they suddenly hopped the curb and crashed into a lake below. “Their car just sped over the curb right here and never even slowed down,” Thrash said.

Thrash jumped off her bicycle, ran to the edge of the water and called 911. Emergency crews took only 4 minutes to arrive, but other witnesses of the crash decided to take the rescue into their own hands.

A runner and two bikers ran toward the water, jumped in and smashed the passenger side window in a desperate attempt to save the elderly couple. The woman was pulled from the vehicle first by one of the runners… but she couldn’t stop asking about her husband.

As the good samaritans freed the woman, fire crews arrived on scene. They immediately leapt into the water and rescued the elderly man only seconds before the car sank completely. The crew stabilized the couple before sending them to the hospital where they have completely recovered.
If not for the everyday heroes that jumped into action and the firefighters that leapt to the rescue who knows what could have happened.
