Lorene Cross, founder of SMART Animal Sanctuary and Rehoming Centre, was on her way out when she saw a pair of mysterious plastic bags by the end of her driveway. Upon further inspection, she noticed that the bags were sealed with zip ties. When she opened them, she was distressed to find two live roosters trapped inside! It was the first time she’d seen animals dropped off at her sanctuary in such an inhumane way.
“The roosters were happy to get out of the bags,” Lorene told The Dodo. “It was starting to get a little warm and humid.”
SMART Animal Sanctuary cared for the birds until Lorene was able to find them a permanent home. She thinks they’re going to be very happy in their new environment!
