The beloved Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end has seemingly been dropping hints that he’s ready to retire following his 13th season in professional football, all of which have been spent with the Chiefs. His most recent season ended with a record of 14-12, and it was the first time in a decade that the team missed the playoffs. At 36, he’s worn down and ready to start his life with his fiancée, Taylor Swift.
However, his decision doesn’t seem so solid following a conversation he had during a recent episode of his podcast, New Heights.
Travis Kelce Would Return for Another NFL Season “In a Heartbeat”
“It’s a tough way to go out, especially with the amount of success and the standard that you hold,” he said on Jan 7th. “It’s a s***** feeling. … It’s an embarrassing feeling, but you keep it moving.”
Travis Kelce noted that he’s going to focus on “just being a regular human” for a few weeks while he tries to figure out what his “future in football” looks like.
“And I think, you know, I’ve talked to a few people in the facility already, you know, having the exit meetings and everything, and they know where I stand at least right now,” he added.
But then he dropped a surprise that has us all uncertain if he’ll give the NFL one more year.
“If my body can heal up and rest up and I can feel confident that I can go out there and give it another 18, 20, 21-week run, I think I would do it in a heartbeat,” he shared. “I’m just trying to figure it all out myself, and I’ll do that with the family and friends.”
Travis is a three-time Super Bowl champion, so no matter when he ends his career, he’s already leaving behind a legacy. But it certainly sounds like he might feel better about walking away after a more successful season.
