Could you resist a delicious puffed pastry filled with savory, minced sausage?
If your name is Henry the dog, the answer is a resounding “no!” In fact, this food-loving pup is alive and well after a near-death experience on the South West Coast Path in Cornwall, England thanks to a sausage roll… and a team of brave rescuers, of course.
Henry and his owners were walking along a seaside trail nicknamed The Strangles when the dog slipped and fell down a cliff. His devastated owners feared that he hadn’t survived the fall. Rescuers searched the area on foot and by air, using drones, but found no trace of the working farm dog.
Two days later, officials returned to the scene after a passerby heard a dog barking. Boscastle Coastguard and Bude Coastguard Rescue Team came to check things out and discovered Henry, alive and well, trapped at the bottom of a 20-foot-deep fissure.
“A quick discussion was made amongst the teams and the best method of extraction was to set up our rope rescue kit,” Boscastle Coastguard Team reported on Facebook.
As a heroic rescue worker strapped in and prepared to be lowered into the narrow fissure, they had a brilliant idea. Henry had been trapped for 48 hours, so they knew he had to be ravenous. They loaded their pockets with some of his favorite treats, including the humble sausage roll.
“After approximately 30 mins of shuffling and squeezing and some lassoing, we managed to get a lead around the dog and pull him up to safety to the obviously overjoyed and happy owners,” the rescue team wrote. As scared as Henry was, he could not resist the lure of a sausages roll! He’s truly a dog after our own hearts!
Henry has been checked by a vet and is completely unharmed from his tumble down the cliff. We’re left thanking these rescuers for their bravery as well as the humble sausage rolls for being so irresistible!
