Billy Joel has many interests that extend beyond the piano. For decades, one of his favorite hobbies included taking a long ride on one of his many motorcycles. As he’s gotten older and faced health challenges, he’s no longer spending time on a motorcycle. Billy’s decided to let others have a chance at his collection. Gooding Christie will host an auction of Billy Joel’s prized motorcycles on Friday, November 20, and Saturday, November 21, in New York City. The auction will feature more than 70 lots, all available without a reserve.

Per Gooding Christie, “His robust collection includes bikes of various eras and styles from the most important marques, including Ducati, BMW, Moto Guzzi, Harley-Davidson, Yamaha, Triumph, Honda, Kawasaki, and more. Select offerings from the Billy Joel Motorcycle Collection will be displayed at Christie’s Rockefeller Center from October 8-12. Interested media and clientele are encouraged to schedule viewing appointments in advance.”
Billy Joel’s love for motorcycles began a very long time ago. Even though he knew that they were dangerous and had a near-fatal crash, he didn’t want to give them up.
“I always romanticized motorcycles. There’s something about it. I feel like I can be completely disconnected from the world. There’s a sense of freedom about that,” he told People.
He added that his record label and insurance companies both told him he had to quit riding, but that didn’t faze him. Now at 77, he’s ready to say goodbye to his collection. If you’d like to browse, you can check it out here.
