The US Open Will Honor 9/11 Anniversary at Arthur Ashe Stadium

September 11, 2026, marks the 25^th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States. A total of 2,977 innocent people lost their lives that day, and more than two decades later, it still feels like a very bad dream. To honor the victims, the first responders, and all those who helped New York rebuild following one of the worst days in American history. This year, the US Open plans to honor the anniversary in a very special way.

“On Friday, the tournament will host scheduled moments of silence, special pre-match recognition ceremonies, and visual tributes throughout the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center,” the US Open shared in a news release.

The US Open will continue the tournament while honoring the 9/11 anniversary.

“In support of the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s call to illuminate the New York City skyline in shared remembrance, Arthur Ashe Stadium will feature a ‘Tribute in Light’ and glow light blue from dusk until dawn–a symbol honoring the lives lost and celebrating New York’s unbreakable spirit and strength,” the release added.

The United States Tennis Association has long honored the anniversary of 9/11, its victims and heroes. If the US Open tournament falls on 9/11, USTA finds a way to commemorate the solemn anniversary.

“The USTA is proud to support those affected by 9/11 through donations to Tuesday’s Promise, an organization offering ongoing support for families grieving traumatic loss, and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which supports military veterans, first responders, and the families of those killed in the line of duty,” per the US Open.

The United States changed profoundly on 9/11. Twenty-five years later, we will never forget and continue to work toward keeping the victims’ and heroes’ memories alive.
