Sick Girl Was Devastated She Couldn’t Go Play In Snow, But One Nurse Saw And Surprised Her With A Winter Day Indoors!

While winter storm Mary was tearing through the east coast last weekend, the kids at National Institute Of Health in Maryland could only think about playing in snow.

Lucy Wiese was one of those hopeful children. She was born with a rare immune deficiency and is at NIH recovering from a bone marrow transplant. When one of her nurses noticed how badly she and the other kids wanted to play outside, the kind-hearted RN decided to bring the snow day to them.

She ventured out into the cold and filled as many buckets as she could with snow, and brought the bounty back to Lucy and her friends.

Lucy’s mother, Jan Wiese, told CBS News that Lucy really wanted to make a snow figurine of the character Olaf but settled on a six-ball snowman instead.

“This kind of thing is not unusual here at NIH. The nurses are incredibly compassionate and caring. They really look out for the kids and the parents, and it feels like a community,” Wiese said. “Lucy has been at NIH for almost eight weeks and has barely been able to leave her room, so it was so much fun for her to be able to play with the snow.”

One nurse’s act of kindness made these sick children feel like kids again. As the sun went down and the magical day came to a close, Lucy and her mom couldn’t have been more thankful for the “normal” childhood experience.
