In between that, she taught herself to play the harmonica. All those hours of sneaky practice culminated in her video surprising her husband.

Her initial research led her to purchase a harmonica in the key of C. From there, it was a matter of learning to create music with the harmonica. A harmonica works by blowing and drawing air through the reed. Players use their tongue to isolate the holes on the instrument, focusing air flow through the correct slot. The first song Brianna selected to learn is a classic: Billy Joel’s “Piano Man.” The harmonica riff is recognizable from the first note for most people (older than 20). She does a pretty good job, in between laughing. Her husband was very surprised when she started playing the beginning notes.
The smile on his face is contagious. He instantly recognized the tune. She never did play through the entire song, in between her nervous laughter. With practice, she will continue to improve. The fact that her husband seems appreciative of the effort she put into learning the harmonica is wonderful.
Brianna was able to calm down and play a longer portion of the song. She’s already pretty good, after only a week, and has already ordered more instruments in different keys to learn new songs. The harmonica is an inexpensive instrument, which makes it perfect for beginners.
