What happens when Hayley’s little brother gets creative with food preparation? He goes a little overboard with the mashed potatoes, creating a scene reminiscent of Jurassic Park. The centerpiece was actually a group project, with the whole family involved. Almost every child goes through a phase where they will only eat dinosaur chicken bites. Parents might as well have some fun with it.

This centerpiece creation was truly a masterpiece. To make a clean space, they started by lining the table with aluminum foil. Then they heaped on a T-Rex-sized portion of mashed potatoes. They started with 20 pounds of potatoes, peeling, boiling, and mashing them. The trees are from a package of broccoli and a package of green beans. They used an entire large bag of Dino Nuggets and have more set aside if needed. They made four packages of gravy to create the lava flow.
The construction was a collective effort. To make the dome for the volcano, they did cheat a little. There is an inverted bowl under the mashed potatoes, keeping the form of the mountain sturdy. That made creating the mashed potato Jurassic Park much easier. Anyone who wanted to help with the construction project was free to jump in and grab components to add to the design.
The family didn’t create this for the kids. Hayley says they hosted a dinner party for about 25 people. Everyone brought a dish to pass, potluck-style, with the mashed potato Jurassic Park as the centerpiece. When Hayley’s brother poured the gravy, there was a roomful of smiling guests cheering him on.

The final spread was pretty impressive.
