We’ve all had one of those moments we regret. We’re in a hurry to get to our destination, and we forget the one thing we need most to enjoy the day. In this case, it was sandals to enjoy a day at the beach without burning feet on blistering sand.

Sand can reach temperatures as high as 120 degrees on a summer day. If you’re interested in the whys and hows, you can watch this video discussing the science of it. One man discovered the importance of protecting his feet from high ground temperatures in a rather dramatic fashion.
While walking to the beach on a summer day, a man walking barefoot was visibly in discomfort, pausing in a shaded area for some respite for his burning feet. A resident taking out his trash noticed the man. After a short conversation, the resident took off his slides and tossed them with a smile. Not believing the generosity of the stranger, the man eagerly put on the slides and promised to return them in a couple of hours.
We don’t know if that ever happened, as there is no follow-up. That doesn’t even matter. What matters is that a man saw someone in distress and immediately offered assistance. The world could definitely use more of that.
This simple gesture is akin to opening a door for an elderly woman struggling with a cane or leaving your quarter in the cart at Aldi. Kind gestures have a way of becoming cumulative when you practice “Pay it Forward.”
Imagine a world in which everyone did one kind thing a day. It might seem impossible, but one kind act by every person could change the world.
