German Shepherd Becomes Best Big Bro To Every Orphaned Fawn He Meets.

Cheryl Stephen has loved animals ever since she started bringing strays home as a little girl. Today, she’s living her best life surrounded by her furry friends!

A variety of creatures live on her farm in Ohio, including a bull, goats, sheep, a horse, and her dog Sarge — otherwise known as the deer whisperer.

Interestingly enough, Cheryl said the German shepherd wasn’t very friendly as a puppy. But these days, the 9-year-old is the best big brother to the injured and orphaned fawns Cheryl takes in and rehabilitates.

It all started when Cheryl began caring for a deer named Buckwheat.

“Something clicked in Sarge, and he took to Buckwheat instantly,” Cheryl said. “He wanted to be involved with every aspect of Buckwheat’s care.”

From that moment until Buckwheat was released back into the wild, Sarge could always be found by the fawn’s side. He even refused to let any of Cheryl’s other dogs get close.

Even after he parted ways with his first BFF, Sarge remained fully committed to his role as deer protector. And the little darlings don’t mind a bit!

“When I walk in the door carrying a fawn, Sarge springs into action. He wants to check them over and he will frantically sniff and nose around to determine their condition,” Cheryl explained. “The fawns are drawn to Sarge and feel safe in his presence. Sarge won’t leave their side.”

Now, every deer that spends time on Cheryl’s farm comes to know they’re safe with Sarge looking out for them.

What a good boy! It’s obvious Sarge got his gentle, caring nature from Cheryl. You can see more of their adorable family on Instagram.
