It’s been quite a year for baby animals. In 2024, we saw Moo Deng the pygmy hippo and Pesto the penguin completely take over the internet with their cuteness! However, we’ll need to make room in our hearts for one more precious critter before the year comes to a close. The San Antonio Zoo just welcomed a new resident, and he’s absolutely adorable. Meet Tupi the baby capybara!

In a viral video on social media, the zoo managed to capture the sweetest footage of Tupi sharing a meal with his mom. It was way too cute seeing the two of them eat out of the same bowl! Well, technically the baby capybara was inside the bowl. As the San Antonio Zoo explained in their comments section, he wouldn’t have been able to reach the food otherwise!
“Munching is a family business for Tupi the baby capybara,” read the video’s caption.
Over three million people have viewed this heart-melting clip online. Commenters thought it was especially funny that Tupi had parked himself right on top of the snacks.
“Oh to be a baby capybara sitting in a bowl of my favorite food,” wrote one user.
Another joked, “He’s REALLY into his food.”
WNCT tells us that Tupi came into the world on December 3, so he’s still quite young! He’s also the first baby capybara to be born at the San Antonio Zoo since 2000, which makes him quite special.
Although this little animal has only been on the internet for a short time, people are falling in love fast. Another video from the San Antonio Zoo shows Tupi snuggling with his mom, and it has received over a million views. After watching this clip, social media users wanted nothing more than to cuddle with this baby capybara!
“What do I need to do to hold the baby?” one person asked. “How much of a donation?! I can’t handle the cuteness!”
Another added, “I just wanna hold the baby once.”
We’re not sure if this newcomer to the San Antonio Zoo will end up going quite as viral as his celebrity baby animal predecessors, but he’s certainly making an impression so far. We’re rooting for you, little guy!
