You probably know Ricky Martin from his hit “Livin’ la Vida Loca,” but you might not be aware of the fact that he’s been singing since he was a little boy.
In fact, he was even on Oprah Winfrey‘s superstar radar back in the 80s with his first career move. Since then, he’s become “a good friend to the ‘Oprah Show,'” according to the host herself. So, during a 2010 appearance on the program, Oprah decided to dig deep into her archives to show Ricky just how long they’ve known each other.
The daytime talk show queen said she “once interviewed him a long, long, long time ago at my old job.” That’s when Oprah rolled a clip, dated October 12, 1984.

In it, Ricky can be seen fresh-faced and just 13 years old. He had appeared on Oprah’s AM Chicago show!
The Latino boy group Menudo was quite the sensation in the 1980s and at the time of the show, Ricky was the newest addition to the band. Judging by all the screams, it’s safe to say he was an instant hit with fans!

The group performed for the eager audience, but perhaps the best part came when Oprah pulled Ricky aside and described him as the “cutest thing I have seen.”

When she asked him what he did to celebrate when he learned he’d be part of Menudo, little Ricky said he told all of his family and they went to “a disco party.”
It was such a cute moment, and Ricky had a priceless reaction to the throwback interview.
