Princess Kate Refuses Participation In “Barbaric” Royal Tradition

Kate Middleton walks outside. She smiles and waves as she looks back.

This British Royal Family is known for adhering to long-standing traditions. But every once in a while, a change is made to keep up with the times. In fact, one of these latest changes was made possible thanks to Princess Kate Middleton. While there are plenty of royal traditions that she and her family hold, it seems there is one regarding her children that she is opposed to keeping up.

According to a royal author named Tom Quinn, Kate will not be allowing any of her three children to partake in what is called “blooding.” This ritual involves the killing of a fox or stag. Once the animal has been killed, blood is smeared on the child’s face. Prince Harry goes into great detail about his experience with blooding in his book, Spare. As a result, many people outside of the royal family have shown support for Kate not continuing this tradition.

Kate Middleton Is Looking Out for Her Three Children

“Why would Princess Catherine allow her children to be traumatized by the archaic and barbaric blooding ritual?” asks British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard. “The great outdoors encompasses feel-good nature, life and healing, not a rite of passage and the acceptance of blood sports.”

While some members of the Royal Family seem to be more passionate about keeping traditions than others, it seems that there is an openness to trust Kate’s decisions for change. As a matter of fact, this can be seen in the recent honor she received. After 115 years, the Princess of Wales was granted a rare royal power by King Charles.

“She has achieved a happy balance, health and service-wise. This involves her children, and the centuries-old blooding doesn’t fall into either category,” Helena continues. “She will put her foot down… The Prince and Princess of Wales, paving the way as the modern, relatable face of the monarchy, realized that blooding is nothing to be proud of and should be totally eradicated.”
