3rd Graders Rewrite Country Song To Be About Learning & Their Epic Sing-Along Goes Viral.

It seems everybody is singing along with Lil Nas X’s song “Old Town Road” (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus), so it was only a matter of time before the parody videos started hitting social media.

Lil Nas X’s country rap single is a breakout hit of 2019, racking up over 115 million views on YouTube in its first month online. The song reached viral status thanks to the “Yeehaw Challenge” on the video sharing site TikTok, and once the remix with Billy Ray was released the song continued its meteoric rise to stardom.

One person who clearly has her finger on the pop culture pulse is Jasmine A. Merlette, a third-grade teacher from Alabama. Jasmine and her students all love the remix so much that they decided to write their own remix of the mega-hit, adding in educational lyrics instead of the song’s original country western words.

“Yeah, I’m gonna take my horse to the old town road, I’m gonna ride ’til I can’t no more,” the original song begins. In Jasmine’s students’ version it’s, “I’m gonna ace my test, I’m gonna raise my score, I’m gonna solve until I can’t no more!”

Not only are the math-themed lyrics cute, but the students themselves are positively overflowing with joy and enthusiasm. With the assistance of a big stuffed giraffe, these kids are having such a great time bouncing around in the background that you can’t help but grin from ear to ear when you see them!

After Jasmine uploaded the video to her Twitter feed the clip went viral almost instantly, and soon everyone was smiling at these effervescent children whose enthusiasm for learning and having fun is infectious. Lil Nas X himself even saw the kids’ remix and retweeted it, commenting, “i’m cheesing hard as [heck] watching this. this beautiful lol.”

According to Jasmine’s hashtags the kids recently aced their state tests, adding an even more celebratory feeling to this video. With teachers like Jasmine encouraging her students to have fun while focusing hard on their education we’re sure these great test results are only the beginning!

There are sure to be even more “Old Town Road” parodies hitting the web in the coming days, but none will compare to these adorable kids! They really made this song their own.
