Divers and snorkelers frequently leave underwater cameras in place and swim away. This practice allows them to record what marine life does when divers are not near. That is what snorkeler Brittany Zimlinghaus attempted when she positioned her camera facing a curious octopus. The little octopus was hiding under sea plants, surrounded by a collection of shells.

Brittany positioned the camera and started to swim away. Watching the little critter, she felt like he was up to something nefarious. Her instincts were correct as the octopus stretched out a tentacle toward the camera. She quickly returned and retrieved the camera to keep the octopus from adding it to its shell collection.

Brittany’s family hails from Ohio. After meeting her now-husband, Gage, in the Navy, the two were married on September 8, 2023, in Batavia, Ohio. They settled in Loveland, Ohio, but eventually became restless. The couple purchased a travel trailer in August 2024 and embarked on a journey. Brittany’s tagline on her TikTok profile is, “Life rocks when your house rolls,” and they are living up to that.
Brittany spends as much time as possible in the ocean. She has collected a wealth of underwater video footage featuring a diverse array of sea animals. She compiled several videos of marine life into one fun reel, showing which creature she feels represents each zodiac sign.
When Brittany isn’t snorkeling or editing cute videos, she spends her time hiking, enjoying the company of friends, and her husband. She is also a talented artist with a portfolio of marine life. She was regularly crocheting adorable little animals, but her Instagram page hasn’t had any new posts recently. You can find Brittany on TikTok and Instagram.
