The reality of being an adult is much more difficult than we all pictured as kids.
Growing up, you probably assumed you’d have everything figured out by a certain age. You’d get a great education, find a well-paying job you love, and would never have to worry about not having a roof over your head. But many people struggle financially and sometimes even face eviction because they can’t afford rent – like the young man whose plight touched a former NFL star’s heart.

Chad Johnson, who used to play for the Cincinnati Bengals, loves interacting with his fans, especially on Twitter. On Feb. 22, he asked his followers a simple question: how was their Friday going? He probably didn’t expect the heartbreakingly honest response he got from Chris Olivas of San Marcos, Texas.

Chris shared that he was about to become homeless after falling behind on his rent payments. He was probably just seeking a little comfort from his idol, but Johnson went above and beyond, promising to “take care of it.”

After receiving proof of Chris’s pending eviction, Johnson sent the man $1,500 via PayPal – more than he needed to cover rent. “God is our refuge and strength,'” Chris wrote, incredibly grateful for the help. “I owe this man my life.”

The former All-Pro wide receiver then responded by challenging Chris’s landlord to a FIFA playoff should he ever have a problem with rent again. Something tells us Johnson – who often refers to himself as the best FIFA player in the world – is not totally joking, here.

Johnson isn’t just a hero on the playing field anymore. His generous gift may not have been a huge deal to him, but to Chris, it was the difference between having a home and being forced out onto the streets. Chris will always remember your selfless gesture, Johnson, as will the rest of your adoring fans.
