M&M’s Releases Plans for Candies Made without Artificial Dyes

M&M's Artificial Dyes

When we think about our favorite chocolate candies, M&M’s always make the list. The tiny, colorful candy that “Melts in your mouth, not in your hands,” is a part of Americana. M&M’s have gotten plenty of color makeovers in the past. The most recent big change came in 1995, when M&M’s introduced its blue candy. In 2026, Mars Wrigley U.S. announced a major change: certain packages sold on Amazon will no longer include blue or brown M&M’s and will not contain artificial dyes.

M&M’s Consumers Want Candy without Artificial Dyes

Blue and brown M&M’s will remain widely available, but artificial-dye-free candies will be available for those who want them.

“Brands that will soon have options made without FD&C colors: M&M’S Chocolate, Skittles Original, Extra Gum Spearmint, and Starburst Original fruit chews. These new non-FD&C options will be available on Amazon this summer,” according to a news release. “Existing varieties of these products with the original color blends will still be available in store and online, for example, M&M’S will continue to have red, yellow, orange, green, blue, and brown. When we have identified fully effective, scalable solutions across the entire portfolio, we will share additional item commitments and timelines.”

Mars wants to ensure its customers can enjoy its products in the way that feels best to them. If that means M&M’s without artificial dyes, that’s now an option.

“At Mars Wrigley, we are in the business of delighting and treating the millions of consumers who love our products. Our approach is always consumer-focused and science-led, and all of our delicious Mars Wrigley products meet the high standards and applicable regulations set by food safety authorities around the world, including the FDA,” Anton Vincent, President of Mars Wrigley North America & Global Ice Cream, shared.
