Bob Sheppard opened his mailbox in Long Beach, California, on August 5, 2026, just like every other day. That day, there was a single piece of mail, a postcard, that looked ordinary. But as Bob looked closer, he realized it was a true postcard from heaven.

“I just started looking at it and go, ‘Oh my gosh. This is a treasure!'” He told ABC 7. “It was the only mail I got that day.”
Bob’s parents, Joanne and John, sent him the postcard from Copenhagen in 2000. It’s been lost in the mail ever since.
“Flying in, we saw lots of water and green, green land everywhere. Love, M&D.’ From Mom and Dad,” Bob Sheppard read.
There is No Doubt in Bob’s Mind the Postcard Came from Heaven
Bob explained to ABC 7 that his father died in 2019 and his mother in 2022. He never got to say goodbye to his dad due to COVID-19 restrictions, and that’s stuck with him for years. Receiving this postcard felt like a gift from heaven from his mom and dad. Bob’s mailman thinks the postcard got misplaced years ago.
“He believes that probably what happened to this postcard is that it somehow fell out of a bin or a basket or a shelf or something like that, and it maybe went underneath a desk or a file cabinet or something like that, and they must’ve just found it recently and said, ‘Hey, the guy still lives at the same address. Let’s go ahead and send it to him,'” Bob explained.
People loved seeing Bob’s story and felt thankful to the postal workers who made sure he got the postcard.
“This is quietly beautiful… a small human kindness across decades. Glad someone bothered to deliver it; imagining him holding that postcard felt like a little closure,” someone wrote.
Nothing like a message from heaven when we need it the most. Bob is one lucky man.
