Owner of World’s Oldest Cat Shares Secret to Decades-Long Life

Millie 31 Cat

We’ve all heard that cats have nine lives and some of them certainly seem to live up to the legend. Leslie Greenhough’s cat, Millie, may not have nine lives, but she’s likely the oldest cat on earth. Leslie claims Millie was born in 1995 and, at 31 years old, is as spry as ever.  “I am very proud she has made it to 31; she is a real trooper,” Leslie said. He credits his cat’s very long life to only drinking mineral water, “lots of treats,” and “cuddles on the sofa.”

Millie the Cat Has Given Leslie a Happy 31 Years

Millie was first owned by Leslie’s late wife, who adopted the cat 31 years ago. Since her passing in 2020, Leslie has cared for Millie. He said he believes his wife would be quite proud of how well the pair have done together.

“But I’m proud of Millie mainly for my wife really; she would be amazed with how well she is doing. Millie is around 146 in human years; I think that says it all really,” Leslie said. “Imagine being 146 years old, I can’t — it is only animals like tortoises that live to daft ages like that.”

Leslie cares for Millie the cat the way she wants at 31 years old. He keeps a fan on her to keep her cool and puts ice cubes in her water. Leslie said that Millie sleeps until noon and lives how she wants to.

“She keeps herself to herself; she will wake up around dinner time, and I will mess about with her for 30 minutes. She only drinks Buxton water and has a diet of salmon, prawns, chicken and tuna,” he added. “Millie likes to do her own thing; I will find her either asleep behind the sofa or asleep in my bed.”
