“This Is Us” Star Breaks Down When He Reveals Who Inspired Jack’s Character.

There are few shows that can have you laughing and crying your eyes out, often at the same time, quite like NBC’s “This Is Us.”

The show follows the lives of the devoted parents of twins and their adopted brother, also born on the same day. Audiences everywhere have fallen in love with the characters as if they were living, breathing people that we know in real life. When Jack, the father figure, died, the entire internet seemed to be in mourning, and now as more details of his untimely passing are revealed, people are more emotionally invested than ever.

Though it’s been a known fact that he would pass away, the episode that aired after Super Bowl 52, revealing how it happened, hit viewers especially hard.

Sensing fans needed a pick-me-up, The Paley Center for Media shared a moment that is sure to make “This Is Us” lovers smile (and maybe tear up, too).

At a Q& A session at Paley Fest LA 2017, a guest asked Milo Ventimiglia, the actor who plays Jack, to reveal his true inspiration for the much-loved Pearson family patriarch. As soon as Milo starts to answer the question, his eyes fill with tears and he blurts out, “Here we go, you’re gonna find me crying – my father.”

Milo then points to his parents, who are sitting in the audience. Although his dad waves his hands dismissively in a, “this isn’t about me,” kind of gesture, Milo forges on.

“All the producers and writers wrote this man who loves his wife and loves his kids. Really as simple as that,”said Milo.

“And I saw that with my own father, and there’s not a moment in my life that I don’t think about how he raised us, my sisters and I, and what he gave me just as a man. So my dad.â€

Milo is visibly shaken as he chokes back a few sobs before soldiering on, and it becomes abundantly clear where the source of the emotional depths of Jack Pearson’s character originated. Milo is clearly a very sensitive and caring person, and his respect for his own father translates perfectly on screen.
