Meet Snooty The Lemon Shark — Who Likes Nose Rubs & Has A Permanent Smile

A hand reaches out to pet the nose area of a smiling shark known as Snooty the lemon shark.

While it’s not uncommon for folks to spot celebrities in certain parts of Florida, did you know that one can be found in the ocean? If not, I’m happy to introduce you to Snooty the lemon shark. This happy-go-lucky gal rose in fame thanks to the 2019 Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition. Although there were thousands of entries, a shot of Snooty became a fan favorite.

This photo perfectly showcases what so many love about the shark: Her ever-present toothy smile. Ever since this photo became popular, social media accounts have been made to keep up with sightings of her. In turn, we are treated to delightful videos like the one below.

In this video, we not only get a perfect view of her winning smile, but we also see that Snooty is surprisingly friendly. Turns out, lemon sharks don’t pose much of a threat to humans. More specifically, there have been only 10 unprovoked attacks by lemon sharks, all of which took place in Florida and the Caribbean.

Snooty the Friendly Lemon Shark Garners Fans With Her Permanent Smile

“Who doesn’t like a chin rub?” a Snooty Instagram account writes with a photo of the shark getting pet by a diver.

As far as her permanent smile goes, it was first thought that it was the result of a fishing injury. But now it’s believed to be a deformity. In any case, it’s clear that Snooty is loving all of the attention she gets from us curious humans!
